Asus ROG Phone 3 512GB: Overview

Asus announced it’s latest and the most powerful gaming phone the Asus ROG Phone 3 on 22 July 2020. The gaming beast is supposed to hit the Australian markets in the first week of August. The phone comes in numerous variations of RAM and storage capacities. You get to choose yours from 128GB 8GB RAM, 128GB 12GB RAM, 256GB 12GB RAM, 512GB 12GB RAM, and 512GB 16GB RAM.

All these variants will have the Snapdragon 865+, which will differ from the Snapdragon 865 version. The Tencent version will have the Snapdragon 865 SoC processor, the only difference. Here, we shall discuss the one with a 512GB UFS 3.0 storage and a 16GB RAM. Let us jump into the detailed specifications without further due.

Body:

ASUS ROG Phone 2 was the largest Smartphone until its successor. The Asus ROG Phone 3 has a dimension of 171 x 78 x 9.9 mm, which is huge. You can notice the thickness of the phone, which is nearly a centimeter. The phone packs in the latest hardware and software flagship specifications on a gaming phone. The phone weighs about 240 grams, which also might be the heaviest.

The Dual-SIM phone sits on an aluminum frame with Corning Gorilla Glass on the front and back. Asus went with Gorilla Glass 6 on the front and Gorilla Glass 3 on the back. The RGB panel on the back pops up while charging and playing games. The panel illustrates the gaming vibe on the phone, which is customizable. [Asus ROG Phone 3 128GB]

We talked about nearly a centimeter thickness, which is for ventilators and the pressure-sensitive shoulder triggers. The phone has well utilized the spaces on the body that flaunts stunning Black Glare. The phone still carries the architectural values of its predecessors.

Display:

Asus ROG Phone 3 sports 6.59 inches AMOLED capacitive touchscreen, which supports 1B color depth. Only a few Smartphones boast the billion color depth on display. You can enjoy the optimal graphics that any Smartphone can offer on this display system. 391 PPI density is the only thing that could have been better.

The device has a 1080 x 2340 pixels resolution with an aspect ratio of 19.5:9. The 79.9% screen-to-body ratio is enough for you to have an outstanding UI experience. 144Hz refresh rate is the most awesome thing about the display system. The system offers you options with a 60Hz, 90Hz, 120Hz, and 144Hz refresh rate.

HDR10+ support on the display renders enhanced and optimized graphics on every frame. You will have a mesmerizing graphics experience with the display of the phone. The brightness on the display is a noteworthy feature. Asus advertises 650 nits of brightness on the display that enables you to see darker darks and lighter whites.

Platform:

Asus ROG Phone 3 operates on an Android 10 with ROG UI on top. Asus uses the ROG UI for better gaming experience and looks that features customizable skins and features on the display. Qualcomm SM8250 Snapdragon 865+ (7 nm+) chipset integrates on an octa-core Kryo 585. These are the latest hardware to land on any top-level smartphone along with the Adreno 650 GPU.

The combination of the Adreno 650, Snapdragon 865+, and Kryo 585 will enable any smartphone to render the high-end Graphics with ease and efficiency. You can play heavy-duty games with extreme specifications on the Graphics and RAM without any problem. Not only games but also the camera and videos on their top specs is the possibility of the combination.

As mentioned earlier, we have a 512GB 16GB RAM variant or the ZS661KS allows you to store all your files, and still have room for downloading more. You will never run out of the space on this phone. The sad part about the storage is that you cannot upgrade it. There is no dedicated card slot for an upgrade.

Camera:

The camera features on the device are pretty decent. As we all know, you buy this phone for Gaming purposes, not for camera features. The phone has a triple-camera system on the rear side. The camera system includes a 64 MP wide-angle, 13 MP ultrawide-angle, and a 5 MP macro lens. The primary lens, 64 MP camera enables you to capture decent photos with precision and details and color saturation.

The ultrawide-angle camera captures larger landscapes and panoramas with greater and intricate details. The 5 MP macro camera lets you capture decent portraits with similar details. The best part about the camera system is that you can shoot 8K videos with 30 fps. You can also shoot 4K videos at up to 120fps, a noteworthy feature. The availability of gyro-EIS lets you stabilize your videos and images.

You will find a 24 MP wide-angle camera on the front, which allows you to shoot 1080p videos with HDR support. The camera does its job well on taking selfies and video calling.

Battery:

The battery on Asus ROG Phone 3 is a statement to all the SmartPhones out there. You will find a Li-Po 6000 mAh battery, the largest value on any SmartPhone. You can play games continuously for hours without having to worry about power drainage. The battery system supports a 30W fast-charging, which allows you to charge your device within an hour plus time.

The charging system supports both Quick Charge 4.0, 3.0, and Power Delivery 3.0 for fast-charging purposes. The system also grants you the power of reverse charging up to 10W. You get what you pay for with this Gaming Beast.

Sound:

The phone has loudspeakers with DTS:X stereo speakers, which come along with 2 dedicated amplifiers. You will have the best immersive sound experience with the sound system. The sound system produces the loudest sound, no other phones, can beat the level of this phone.

Despite the 24-bit/192kHz audio, loudest sound on any smartphone, you do not get a 3.5 mm jack port. You need to rely on Bluetooth for connecting external speakers. Wired connection is much better while gaming due to the low-latency of sound.

Connectivity:

The Dual-SIM supports 5G networks on both the SIMs. You can enjoy the fastest data transmission and higher rates of communication with phone connectivity. Other connectivity features on the phone include WLAN(Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac/6, dual-band, Wi-Fi Direct, hotspot) and Bluetooth 5.1, A2DP, LE, aptX HD, aptX Adaptive.

GPS with dual-band A-GPS, GLONASS, BDS, GALILEO, QZSS, and GNSS, NFC, and two USB (side 3.1, bottom 2.0) Type-C 1.0 reversible connector; accessory connector are other connectivity options.

Fingerprint (under display, optical), accelerometer, gyro, proximity, and compass are some sensors on the system.
